Either that or a talking rock.

thank you for your kind words.

i am referring to the term "walking stick" as i am used to hearing it. and that is, as a long , sturdy stick, often carved but not necessarily that one uses on hikes or long walks. perhaps over rocky or uneven ground. it provides a sense of balance.

now that you mention it, it is a rather humorous term. i had not thought of the stick as walking before so thank you for the comment. but if i walk with it, what is the stick doing?

anne artist said...

so, the long and winding road could also be a stage....and the question is, as you say, for whom am i performing?

"but if I walk with it, what is the stick doing?"

Obviously, it is just sticking around.

funny.....and a great question.

what is the stick doing?

is it doing or being?

being in my hand, rising as i lift it toward my next step, settling into the earth right before my foot contacts the ground...

which lead me to ask....is it dancing?

Alessandra said...

The stick is not doing anything...you don't want it to do. It's just a stick, it has no life, therefore it cannot 'be' anything else but a stick.

If you're singing on the long and winding road, perhaps, you're just performing for yourself. Must we always have an audience?

anne artist said...

is it a need for an audience or an interest in interaction?

Lazarus Lupin said...

well now some philosphers have said, "To be is to do."
Others have said "To do is to be."
Frank Sinatra said "Doo Bee Doo Bee Doo."

There is a certain observational black hole on the question of being or doing, the two actions are inter-related and something of philosphical wave/particle. The question is: Do you want it being or doing? You here are the narrator of events giving you a certain God like quality.

In a similar vein, the very act of narration or story teller creates an audience if only a virtual one. The tale is now told floating free.

You are an interesting person, I like that since at best I am only an interesting case study.

Enjoy!

PS today's verification word was "warlegmp" which has a certain olde english feel to it.

I live all the questions and the pictures on this blog. Wonderful. Very thought-provoking.

i have been laughing and enjoying your words...lazarus lupin.

an olde english commentary on particle physics. who would have thought? maybe frank sinatra.

if i regard it as being, then that in itself is an action....

am i observing myself in the midst of a black hole?

i'm not worried since, as a story of my own telling, i am also floating free.

If I had to give, I would. God Bless you!

I would if you said you were going uphill.

I'm still stuck on the philosophical wave/particle thing...not sure exactly what's supposed to mean. The story is your to tell, so you may tell it anyway you want...Heck, the stick could even be a 'being', then it might get up and walk away, and you'd be left alone on the long and winding road...

anne artist said...

that's entirely possible. your gift could walk away.

perhaps, lazarus lupin will return and have more to say...

We are all on the long winding road and need help to keep us "on the straight and narrow" That is what friends are for. I am blest with them even though I live alone

Matt said...

Very nice piece of art,it is so in tuned to the thought as simple as it is.If the long and winding road required a walking stick then yes,but in life there are many times we must walk that winding road without a walking stick,it makes us stronger as people.

Ilze said...

hey - i like your blog ! cool art!!

anne artist said...

yes, there are times when we must walk the road on our own, without even a walking stick......and perhaps we see things along the way that we would not have otherwise.

Florence Teo said...

no man is an island.... i read it as a friend in need is a friend indeed in the walking stick.

many a times, it was that walking stick that keeps me moving in the long and winding road.

anne artist said...

i would hope their would be many ways to read these blogs. eliminates the right/wrong thing, hopefully. just the curiosity about where the question might take us. each person's comment, becoming like a walking stick, perhaps, as we travel along..........

so, thank you for your comment!

I'd give you a microphone.

anne artist said...

and would you play back up?

E. Studnicka said...

Only you know the tune of your own song.

anne artist said...

i agree that i am the only one who knows the tune of my song. although sometimes, it is not the easiest thing to hear it. although it is always flowing within me.

yet, i would like to think that although each of us has a song......we could become a band....the differences taking us in many directions. perhaps hearing another's song will enable me to hear a note i had missed in my own.

if i had a walking stick, could i use it to keep the beat?

E. Studnicka said...

The world is but a marching band, forever pushing forward and filling the air with beautiful music.

anne artist said...

as long as i and others as well, can march to the beat of a different drummer......and i can create my own uniform....
