To turn out the lights to see a ghost of a former self is like closing your eyes to glimpse your past. A ghost is but a trace, a memory. it is not real or tangible, hence there is no real reason to turn out the lights. Does 'turn out the lights' mean switching all your attention to that one thing, while casting all other areas into darkness and shadow?
Are you a beautiful ghost of your former self,or a ghost that is too ugly to be seen ??Will I take the efforts to turn out the lights, so I could see you ??
i like the idea that turning out the lights is similar to closing your eyes. so if i were a ghost of my former self, you could still see me if you closed your eyes and allowed the traces of my being to become evident? is that how we remember people who are no longer in our midst?
and sally ang, is there any way to know how the ghost will look prior to turning out the lights? so, yes, the question becomes, would you risk what you might see and turn out the lights?
Without light the darkness is a dangerous frightening place... would you glow to guide me? would you touch me with your essence in comfort? would you whisper for me to turn the light back on if you sensed my fear? if I did this for you, would you stay? x
If I turn out the lights to see the ghost of your past, would I not miss seeing your face today?
As Donne famously challanged the suns strong light in 'The sun rising' saying: " I could eclipse and cloud them with a wink. But that I would not lose her sight so long" :)
by questioning, by asking about my face today, would you be reminding me that i am not simply the ghost of my former self and perhaps that in the light i, too, could see my face?
for is it in the darkness that i become my own ghost?
The darkness of the past and the light of hope for tomorrow meet to create your face today.
You are definitely more than your ghost, but that ghost is a part of you too. We keep a part of that darkness with us even in pure light in the form of a shadow? No need to turn out the lights.
:) how beautifuly you say it. So my twist on your original question would be "If the ghost of my past haunts and posseses me,would you turn on the light and help me see who I really am?"
if i turned on the light, i would see you and i could then open the door and invite you to walk outside, because you would then know a shadow for what it was......?
the ghost stories i grew up with occurred at night. perhaps because ghosts are rather ephermal due to the lack of having an actual body. but then i suppose ghosts could be created in other ways.
perhaps the word "ghost" can mean other things other than the kind i just described......
I take it to mean, if I were to change-(if I were the ghost of my former self)-maybe for the very worse, what kind of friend would you be then? Would you dismiss me because you no longer see me, or know me, the same way, or by the same means, or would you bother to adjust the way you connect with me, so that you can still understand me in some fashion.
Perhaps, ghost exist because they had to complete certain missions ...they haven't really complete when they are human....the missions can be events just causing hurts to itself or others ....so guess i dun really want to let ghosts live in me nor want to see any of it in my life time :)
perhaps this is a good moment to suggest that a "ghost" of my former self might mean that i am low energy, that i am for any number of reasons unable or unwilling to project my whole being into the world. i would not be a ghost literally. then, what would you do in order to see me when i am not really feeling strong enough to see myself?
and to clarify, this is a metaphorical question. i am not feeling ghostlike at this time........
I feel we are all ghosts of our former selves. I know I've come into the world this time carrying many beliefs as well as hopes and fears from where I've been before. I've spent the past seventeen years consciously unearthing them, in a solo meditative quest and this has revealed I've also spent the rest of my life doing so unconsciously.
I liked very, very much your blog! It's very interesting! Thanks for giving us the oportunity for make contact with your work, 'cause it's fantastic. And the way that you do it, asking thinks which are related with your paintings... Fantastic! Good work! Continue doing it (: Congrats! And now an invitation: come and see my blog, for see my work. If you do it, tell me your opinion about it, 'cause I think, that's so much important to know!
i am a painter who began my career as a child coloring outside the lines of my coloring books. i am a writer who started out by composing adventure stories while riding my stick horse around the backyard. as a child, i got in trouble for asking too many questions...i question that.
"the emperor's new clothes" by hans christian andersen
this fairy tale has been a companion to me as i have traveled through my life.
briefly, it is about an emperor who was deceived by two tailors who said they were making a set of clothing out of a "dream" fabric. in reality, they used no fabric at all. to make their scam complete, they announced that only those who were wise enough would be able to see the beautiful clothing. and so, no one, not even the emperor, admitted to being unable to see it.
wearing his new "clothing", the emperor paraded through his kingdom. no one questioned his appearance; no one wished to appear less than wise.
until a small child asked, "why is the emperor not wearing any clothes?"
so it is that i ask, if i question rather than believe i am wise, what will i see?

ah.....feels like poetry......
am wondering if there is such a thing as complete darkness or if my eyes get used to it, do i sense a light?
If I turn out the lights to see the ghost of your past, would I not miss seeing your face today?

a beautiful quotation. thank you for it.

so light will illuminate my former self by creating a shadow i can touch but not hold........
:) how beautifuly you say it.

If your are ghost, your are the best ghost, you have sense of humanity.
if i turned on the light, i would see you and i could then open the door and invite you to walk outside, because you would then know a shadow for what it was......?
ah, thank you for the ghost complement....my first, i believe........
Ah, Cute.
:)
Who decided ghosts glow in the dark? Or are we discussing only ghosts which bacame so as a result of radiation poisoning?
Do you have any sausage recipes?
woah! spooky... i did take the words literally though. it's only after reading the comments did i get insight.

I don´t need to turn out the light to see the goast in my house ;)
ahhh....
If you can be seen already with the lights on, would turning the lights off make me able to see you in a better or worse way?
i suppose you would see me as the ghost if we were in the dark. i am not sure what you would see in the light.....
Oh, please...we don't need to turn out the light...just close our eyes.

Sorry the poor english.
See ya...

"unearthing" ghosts...a interesting phrase.......that can take us many places, perhaps.
The ghost of my former self is always with me. Would it take more than turning out the lights to see this?
if it is always there, would we forget to see it?
I would turn them on before you turn me on
so you would disappear by your own choice first?
