if a book remained unread, would the story rewrite itself?

no, it would never be told and thus, the pages would be blank.
the story is written only when we read it since we all interpret them differently.

The book is already written, so whether you read it or not, it would not be rewritten ....but when you remained unread about it ....you never get to know the storyline....thus...you will never be able to interpret it ....and thus you will never be able to know the joys and excitement of the story unfolding ....then you can choose to, perhaps live "outside" the story(since you never read), or you can choose to live out the story with an improved ending of the storyline :)....

so, m, a story is in the telling.........in its relationship with the reader........

if i looked at the book but did not open the cover, might i believe i had an idea of what it is about? especially if i read the title or looked at the graphics on the cover?

how often, s.a., do we choose to "live 'outside' the story"? when do we realize we can change the ending?

Well, it seems that the question should be ...was it your intention to live outside the story ...since you never take the efforts to read it ....and the time that we realize that we can change the ending ...is when we discipline ourselves not to take the path ...that is assigned to us in the way it is ...but is important to consider whether is good or bad if you intend to change the ending ...and to you it maybe good ...but to the others it may mean bad .....but guess ....each of us will know what is the best for us and others, through the living of each moments and experiences we have ....we sow and we reap :)....perhaps the better question to ask... is if a book remained unread ,would the story make any changes to the way you live your life ??

s.a., an interesting question!

i suppose if the book remains unwritten, it will be whatever i believe it to be. and so, i might miss its story altogether........

i like your words "live outside the story".......that frees me up........i do not have to accept the story that someone else has read or even written and apply it to my own life. but if i live outside the story, where does that take me?

yes, by looking at the cover you most probably have an idea of what it's about by the title, or cover art, or synopsis...
However some books may surprise you. You should never judge a book by it's cover.

what if i had a wild and crazy moment and opened the book to a random page and read it......what then?

you might be shocked at what you read. But, if you read from the beginning it would not seem so strange. There is a good reason for everything. <3

would there be a reason to open the book at random and read a page?

Sally Ang said...

It would be interesting to read a page from a random book ....and realise how much it can do to your life ....or how your life is being reflected by it :)....we should always try new things ....to get new experiences ....out of the routine we do everyday :).....

"how your life is reflected in it" i like that.

yes, if we read from the beginning, we have a sense of context. yet, there are times when one sentence, on its own, can speak volumes............

if we dun read em, its mainly coz we dunno any of em.

thus, we dun read n we dun write..

so if we are unaware of our environment, we are unable to be literate................?

If a book remained unread, the story remains unread? but what if the story is told orally, unknowingly the story is passed down, is the book still unread?

and would the story rewrite itself, in the disappointment that it wasn't good enough to be read, what would the book think about it, since the book is the cover for the story?

bh, i love these thoughts.........

a book is a story but a story does not have to be a book. very cool! i wonder about the shift from the oral telling of stories to the writing down method of presentation...

what happened to the storytellers?

what is happening to them now that we can tweet in only a few words? is the tweet becoming a substitution for a book?

and very interesting that although the cover gives indications, at least sometimes, as to the contents of the book, the book itself serves as the cover for a story.
