Hmmm...that caught me ...what is the difference between a number and a word....if a number gives the value and the count of a quanity, then what does a word gives ??...meaning and purpose behind the quality ???...:)...just my simple thoughts :)...

miranda, i lost your comment so have cut and pasted it back in:

Maybe not. Numbers are universal and understood around the world. Words have to be translated.

so, m. numbers are less than universal when combined with a word...or not?

s.a., how is value different from meaning?

Value is different with meaning ....in different degrees and context ....if you mean...having nothing is zero(as a word)...then do you then value
"0" as nothing too ...i must agreed with Miranda that numbers are universal ...well ...the word "zero"...with a "changed" first letter ....could be "hero" and means everything to alot of people .... thus ....hmmm that is guess the difference between words and numbers :)

Then...again..."0"...represents nothing ...but what does represents means to you ....presenting means you present to someone ...thus what are the values ...that "0" represent ??

interesting questions, s.a. i am going to think about them until tomorrow....

Maybe we understand numbers ...by giving it a meaning ...just like 25/12 is Christmas Day :)... and perhaps :)...25 divide 12 gives us ...2.083....hmmmm :)

so a number can be a symbol...or part of a process....words simplified.....

Sally Ang said...

Perhaps by being a number ...we get to know the simplied meaning which will be able ...to thus gives us the value and count...and when combined usage with words ...we will be able develop and evolve the technology world ...and contain the historical world ...:)

a number is also a word, isn't it?

both words and numbers can be part of a language. a 1 and a 0 form a computer language that enables us to type words into a keyboard.

i wonder, is a number a word if we do not translate it? i mean....words are born of an alphabet. if i see a "1" do i translate it into "one"?

the word "one" could refer to another person and not a number. can a number refer to something other than itself?
