I hope you are comfortable with whatever you are. I would think you'd want to stay a door. You met far less asses that way.

you would rather not, for a door may lead to a chair, but a chair would lead you nowhere

r, could a chair lead to a clear view out the window?

could it hold a book with a story waiting to be told?

or me, curled up before the fireplace, watching the lights burn........

l.l., what is a door?

A door is a wall with flexible hours.

Well if you're a door, you can let people in and let them discover who you are. Create tighter bonds.

If you choose to be a chair, you can let people rely and depend on you when they're tired.

Either way is fine.

i am wondering if a chair is like a vessel. if i sit in a chair, it holds me up from the floor. i can be contained in a chair.

if i am a door, then i can let people in. or remain closed. a door can be both a barrier and an entrance. it opens to the freedom beyond and closes to the world within......

and l.l., what would a door be in i don't believe in time?

Chair and door would love to be again the tree on the forest!

Yes, because the grass is always greener on the other side.

z, there's a thought! both the door and the chair dreaming of being the tree in the forest.....

l.l., if you are listening......what do you think of that?

and bh, if you are out there, i am wondering what you would say about the chair as a vessel....

b,

the grass oftentimes does seem greener on the other side of the fence: you have a point there. the door faces and is a part of the outside world, yet it is hinged to the inside of the house.....

i am thinking about l.l.'s comment about the door having flexible hours......and i wonder if the door is more about time and the chair is then about timelessness.

very jungian. Furniture having a lumberian unconcious. Yearning for the primal forest of their birth.

A tree is its own thing, with its own agenda. It grows and propogates. That it is part of a forest and a community adds to itself not subtracts. One can see the forest for the tree.

Furniture serves, as do door. They are created as things that have no real meaning unless put into a greater whole. A tree is a tree, but a chair is only a chair in the context of the humanity. Our time is their time.

i do like jungian psych.

i am feeling that the chair in your comment is a linear and therefore an accurate description of a chair. and it contains a great deal of thought which enables me to expand beyond my usual way of considering things.

yet, as a primal yearner, i have difficulty traveling there. perhaps because i live slightly outside the world of time and see the chair as a vessel within which i sit and am nurtured. or a vehicle in which i can curl up and read or daydream and travel to placeless places.....like a door, it can open to a reality outside the inside of where i usually live.

on a side note, when i created a painting in art school about the forest and the tree, i was told not to come back....perhaps it was too childlike an image....it seems that the teacher felt i had my own agenda, like the tree in your comment.

having said all that, in my way, i am joining you in seeing the forest for the tree.

even as i hold a twig in my hand and see the forest with a chair hidden in the ferns just outside a door left ajar..

Perhaps i would like to be both...being the time piece that let people in and out as they need to and being a piece of furniture where i could provide comfort and security to the people....and yes, i am orginated from the forest :)...qn : Couldn't i be proud that i had been able to be transformed to something useful for the people rather staying in a forest where all the other trees are ??

anne artist said...

s.a., the art of being both....in time and beyond time. a boundary and a source of ongoing comfort.

i admire you for orienting yourself to helping others, and for going about your day with the memory of the forest within you.

i wonder if there are those who lead others to the forest so that they can touch the trees and therefore feel the trees within themselves......a different kind of door opener.

to go back to your original thought, can we be both?

No, you'd be happy to stay a door so long as you get a lick paint to keep you fresh every few years...

would a wheel chair be happier than an ordinary chair? At least it gets out.

anne artist said...

now there is a question....a wheel chair......now the chair has become a conveyance.....a vehicle......surrogate legs.
well, for s.a., that would be something useful for the people...

but, as you say, because it has wheels it can go beyond the door. would a chair be happier if it became a vehicle? yet, if it were empty would it miss moving?

a wheelchair for me is constructed in a utilitarian fashion. have you seen an upholstered wheelchair? their form seems dictated by function and there is not much diversity among them.

would a wheelchair long to express its individuality?

is motion the price it pays?

Raji said...

Then it would depend on whether you want to curl up and relax or move on to what is beyond

anne artist said...

r, that is an interesting thought......

the door is a part of what is inside as well as what lies beyond.
