If you lit a candle in broad day light, will the sun outshine your candle...and if it still does..would you be sad that the sun has outshine the candle you lit..or become happy that the candle is now a part of the dazzling sunlight?
And if I ask you why you lit up a candle what would you say?

if i look at the candlelight close up, it would seem brighter than the sun. and for me, the sun would bring daylight but the candle simply sheds light upon.

why would i light a candle if i were standing out in the sunlight......in order to look at the flame and see the dance of light......

bh, why or would you light a candle on a sunlit day?

I would light a candle in a sunlight day, and place it behind and underneath those huge rocks, that bring shadow to the little plants..I would like to give them some of my light too..
and how beautiful it is to see the dance of flame..but if I see you in a bright sunny day, would I overlook the candle..and concentrate on the sun beams on your face, and feel I see a flame in you?

bh.......ahhh,.....so a person can be a candle lit by an internal flame...

Why not?
I believe we all have a flame burning in us,and some people can see it..and I believe the sunlight dancing on your face in itself will be a flame..=)

bh....nice.....

looking at it from another direction.......sometimes i make assumptions.....i might have within me the assumption that candles are lit when it is dark, when more light is needed.

so, if you lit a candle, i might see what i assume....that it is dark......rather than look with my own eyes and notice the sun......

if i lit a candle, i might simply be celebrating light in various forms......the sun, the candle's flame and as you say, your inner light......

Oh how beautiful it sounds, and yes indeed..but then it's so true we think the notion of lighting a candle is associated with darkness, yet I can't help but see the symbolism, when in hard times and tough conditions,i.e. when the dark settles in we see that hope, strength and light in us,and it is true the hardest of times bring the sweetest of results..
but I can see my light in joy too, when I dance in the rain,or burn my flaws in the flame..=)
Beautiful isn't it...

so, i am wondering.....is there such a thing as too much light?

Because it was sunlit day, the candle light would seems to be so useless ....because the sun which gives the most light would have been the focus....is it a necessary action to lit the candle when sunlight is enough ....shouldn't we reserve the candle light for the night ....where we need it most??

if there is a thing as too much darkness, then maybe there is a thing as too much light..
now I wonder, they say anything in excess is not good,be it the good or evil,so too much of light may not be good in sometimes,so would you request the sun to lower her glare? Or you would take the candle inside where the light maybe needed?

there seem to be two questions within this question.

why would i light a candle on a sunlit day?

and why would you believe it was night, if i did light a candle on a sunlit day?

No one would believe it was night. Candles are not lit only for its light, as they are also symbolic and used in ceremonies, prayer and meditation.

yes, candlelight has several functions.....

Is true that candlelight are for different purposes but i suppose if i lit a candlelight, i need to know the meaning and purposes of lighting it ....as in the case of a well-lit sunlit day...it would be so insignfiant to light the candle ....so therefore i choose to lit a candle for a good purpose and a meaning to it ....and i won't believe it is night unless there is darkness that is around ....

i was curious, so this afternoon, i lit a candle and stood outside in the daylight. i doubt that i have done that before.

since the flame was not purposeful, i.e. bringing light to a darkened room, it became symbolic. it felt like holding hope in my hand.

no, it was not a candle on a birthday cake; take a deep breath and blow out the flame. nor a candle in church. not even a candle i was focusing on in order to meditate.

it was simply a small white candle whose flame, as it burned, connected me to hope in the midst of the darkness i often feel when i listen to news broadcasts...a darkness that is present even on a sunny day.

so i might light another candle and stand outside in the sunshine, just to feel light again.
