each question, each drawing is an invitation to join me in allowing what appears absurd to take us to a wisdom beyond linear thinking.
as long as we question, we are free. free to see, to feel and to express who we are. and to connect collaboratively with one another.

- i am a painter who began my career as a child coloring outside the lines of my coloring books. i am a writer who started out by composing adventure stories while riding my stick horse around the backyard. as a child, i got in trouble for asking too many questions...i question that.

"the emperor's new clothes" by hans christian andersen
this fairy tale has been a companion to me as i have traveled through my life.
briefly, it is about an emperor who was deceived by two tailors who said they were making a set of clothing out of a "dream" fabric. in reality, they used no fabric at all. to make their scam complete, they announced that only those who were wise enough would be able to see the beautiful clothing. and so, no one, not even the emperor, admitted to being unable to see it.
wearing his new "clothing", the emperor paraded through his kingdom. no one questioned his appearance; no one wished to appear less than wise.
until a small child asked, "why is the emperor not wearing any clothes?"
so it is that i ask, if i question rather than believe i am wise, what will i see?

"Weak" ...becos...it is being flown to and back hanging on top of trees :) by the wind ....maybe ...."high up"...a can't reach feeling :)
would a leaf high up on a tree see its environment from a different angle?
Would then the wooden stool can't see what the leaf sees ??
the stool would see what was closer to the ground........
The stool helps people stand taller to reach the leaf :)....Btw do we then, conclude that stool is much useful then the leaf ???

Useful to the people who step on it....and the leaves ...i think is useful to the tree it grows out of :)....Anne,do you prefer to be the stool or the leaves ??
the stool has the capacity to exist long after the leaves have turned to dust. but yet, it exists in a form shaped by man, one quite different from the tree. it becomes a tool of its owner, rather than part of the cycles of nature. but perhaps, its owner will regard it as art as well as function....
so would i rather have the ability to exist for centuries and be part of many lives and environments and be seen as something quite different than the tree?
or be the leaf, fragile, temporary yet one with the tree?
i guess my answer depends on the day you ask me to be the new green promise of spring, the vivid colors of fall. yes......
but to become a simple lustrous reinterpretation of a tree....well....i could do that, too.
how about you, s.a.?
It depends on your attitude...If you are the type which is sensual you would watch them sway...if you were competitive you would wonder why you should be useful rather than natural...
Wow...your english is so good ...:)...there are some words that i dun understand but well...hmmmm...get your thoughts ....I think i want to be stool...a piece of art yet useful, letting people step on and getting to a higher level....and yes nearer to ground....although i can't reach the leaf....but i am just happy people could reach it while stepping on me ....i dun really like green...so ya ....not a leaf for me :)
and if i were not feeling natural or sensual, i might believe i was simply a "wooden" stool....
well, you would have to hope to be a leaf that turns red and orange in the fall...a lot of waiting.
being a stool might be a step up from that....
as for my english....it is easier to draw than to type....
Somehow...ya...waiting for seasons to change ...is a good thing...then, ya while waiting ...i can be that sensual and swaying leaf enjoying the wind ...or that stool that benefits people while being step on :)....Actually, is a luxury ...to be able to draw ...enjoy your time, Anne :)
yes, drawing is a luxury but it is also a necessity.
you have pointed out, it seems, that there is activity within what appears to be only waiting.
